Case of the Blahs

01.28.08 (2:59 pm)   [edit]

A rainy windy day. Kinda tired from 8am swim. Doing laundry. Feeling kinda ehhh about school and wishing grad school would get back to me. Glad I don't have to work. Annoyed that it is too wet and windy to get rid of the leaves that are collecting at my doorstep. Thinking about going back to the store and organizing something else in the house. I did the recycling this morning.

An Atheist Twist On the Fine Jar

01.18.08 (11:39 pm)   [edit]

So I don't believe in god, but I am often surprised at myself when I say "Oh my god" as an exclamation. It's a by-product of being raised in a culture of Christianity.

So I decided to make a fine jar. Every time I say an exclamation with the word god in it, I will pay one dollar to the fine jar and that money will go to the collection basket of my parent's church, a place that I would definitely not want my money. Thus I hope I will have some incentive to stop saying something I don't believe in. It's just annoying.

Imagine if you didn't believe in Zeus yet you had the annoying culturally imparted habit of saying "Oh my Zeus."

What will I say instead when in need of a phrase of surprise? "Oh man."

That's something I believe in. Heck, I don't have to "believe" anything.

Surprise But Welcome Intensity

01.17.08 (11:07 am)   [edit]

I had two hours left to qualify as a full time student this semester, and I wanted something fun that would not drag down my GPA, so I chose an aquatic fitness class. I had thought it would be a class of old ladies dancing around to hits of the 60s. Nope. Absolutely the opposite.

Wow. It is intense! We did all these agility drills and quick laps that made me feel like I was in some kind of Navy Seal boot camp! (Of course I know that boot camp is unimaginably tougher, but still, it was tough) Between that and 3x a week yoga class, when this semester ends in May, I will be in the best shape I've ever been in!

I'm pretty happy about making my body leaner and stronger. I have great balance and flexibility already, and with this cardio-pulmonary endurance, I will finally feel the vibrancy I've always wanted to feel.

The amount of stress I release from doing something so strenuous 3x a week at 8am is amazing. I leave there relaxed and a bit energized. It's a very good feeling.

It was slight, but he did it. :)
